DIY: Bow Tie Necklace

I adore Bows. I have more bow headbands than should probably be allowed; its part of my constant desire to be a real life Alice in Wonderland. Saying that, it should also be noted that I am trying new things out with bows (obviously just expanding my love of them). I made a bow tie necklace and would like to show you how easy it is to do!

First you need to find a bow tie. I was lucky enough to find this vintage bow tie at an antique store. Definitely check out antique stores and consignment stores first if you want that vintage-y feel. Otherwise you can buy them in just about any men's store (but they'll be more expensive!). **Make sure that you have the ability to loop a chain onto the bow tie (usually found on clip on ties).
Next, if you've chosen wisely there will be holes on either side of the bow tie to loop a necklace chain through. If there aren't its okay! You'll want to stop by a craft store like Michael's to buy necklace clasps and sew them onto the bow tie. This way you have somewhere to loop your necklace chain.

When choosing a chain, you must think about how visible you want it to be. The thicker it is, the more you'll be able to see it. That's why I chose a thin chain to use, to make the bow tie appear like its floating. The other thing you want to think about is how long you want the necklace to be. I wanted a short necklace so that the bow tie rested just below the neckline so I found a short chain.

Once you have all the necessities you can loop the chain through your bow tie and voila! You have a bow tie necklace.
